Lot consists of 7 documents regarding losses at Fort Washington, Fort Lee, clothing return at Ft. Schuyler, postwar affidavit signed by Guy Carleton as Governor of Canada, etc. (A) Peter Gansvoort signed return of “cloathing wanted to compleat the 3d New York Battalion for the year 1778.” List of shirts, coats, vests, leather breeches, hose, hats or leather caps, blankets, and woolen breeches needed by each of 9 companies, including the light infantry company, 5 commanded by captains and 3 by the field officers. Fort Schuyler, July 10th, 1778. (B) 1778 pay voucher for Major William Downe as Major of Brigade of Artillery Oct-Dec 1778. (C) Oct. 1782 list of 7 British prisoners, with names and units, taken in New Jersey by Capt. John Davis and turned over to New Jersey state prison. (D) June 1777 pay order to Joseph Cummins “for wages and losses of his son Zephariah taken at Fort Washington and died in York.” (E) May 1777 pay order to Doctor Pell for “Cloathing and Medicines lost at Fort Lee at the Retreat therefrom when himself was taken Prisoner being then a Surgeon in the Connecticut forces…” (F) May 1777 pay order to Lt. E.L. Belden “for losses sustained by himself &c at Fort Lee.” (G) Guy Carleton signed October 1787 signed affidavit as Governor of Quebec and Lord Dorchester with seal at upper left, attesting validity of James Monk as Deputy Judge of the Vice Admiralty for the Province of Quebec who signs an attached affidavit in French regarding fishing rights. PROVENANCE: Ex-Lattimer Collection. CONDITION: Excellent overall. Carleton document signed “Dorchester” with paper seal intact, partial separation on upper horizontal fold.
