An extremely rare work regarding early American medicine, "Observations on Some of the Diseases of the Parts of the Human Body: Chiefly taken from the Dissections of the Morbid Bodies" by Samuel Clossy. The book contains 195 pages between 2 new polished brown calving book covers. Appears complete with covers exhibiting polished finish. Pages are intact with scattered blemishes typical of old texts. Light staining and edge wear. Samuel Clossy was the first public collegiate professor of anatomy in Colonial America. He gave the first anatomy classes and dissections at King's College in New York City (now Columbia) in 1763. His Observations, which he wrote during the 1750s, was the first treatise on anatomy and pathology published by a physician working in America. According to several sources, including American Book Prices Current, copies of this text are seldom encountered on the collector market. A fine copy of one of the rarest works in American medicine, by the first teacher of systematic anatomy in the American Colonies. This book was formerly in the library of Dr. John K. Lattimer, who collected medical related texts, especially those associated with Columbia University where he taught for many years. CONDITION: Good.
