A nice example of a 19th century photographer's head clamp. These head stands or head clamps were designed to help steady a photographic subject’s head during the long exposure times necessary to produce various types of photographs (daguerreotype, ambrotype, tintype, CDV, and cabinet card) during the 19th century. The clamp does not appear to be maker marked but exhibits a patent date: "PAT DEC 8 75". All screws function properly but are tight. Heavy patina throughout with evidence of green paint on the shaft. Ex-Lattimer Collection. CONDITION: Good.
