Very rare set of medals that was awarded to an aviator with American Volunteer Group or AVG fighting against the Japanese prior to the US entry into WWII. Included is a "Cloud of Honor" Medal with it's original ribbon. The medal carries the above title in Chinese on the reverse side as well as number "68" in both Chinese and the Arabic numeral systems. Also included is a National China award (No. 6347) for service in the Army, Navy, or Air Force. Consignor notes indicate this was found along the Cloud of Honor medal. Included is the original silk neck drape and presentation silk envelope bearing the same number. Both medals are bronze with cloisonné details. The medals are attributed to Ken Jernstedt, who was one of the original Flying Tigers. The medals were displayed in the original collection with and are accompanied by a 1998 newspaper clipping detailing Jernstedt's service with the Flying Tigers, where he mentions earning the Chinese medals. CONDITION: Solid overall and retaining original ribbons and suspension systems.
