According to the Colt Factory Archive letter. This gun left the factory as a .44/40, barrel length not listed, blued finish, and type of stocks not listed. It was shipped the the Winchester Repeating Arms Co. in New Haven, Connecticut on February 14, 1882, in a shipment of 25 guns. There are 3 other Colt Archive letters with this gun dating back to April 19, 1938. All 4 of these letters confirm the configuration of this Colt and discuss the history of the Colt Company. There is also a notarized letter dated 1/31/1992 from Bob Eder discussing the condition of this fine Colt. Single line address on top of the barrel "COLT'S PT. F. A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD, CT. U.S.A.". There is an etched panel on the left side of the barrel "COLT FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER". Three line patent dated on the left of the frame. Matching serial numbers observed on the frame, trigger guard, backstrap, and on the grip inside of the rear channel. Last four of the serial number on the bottom of the barrel under the ejector rod housing and on the side of the cylinder. Assembly number (6869) on the inside of the loading gate. Case color frame and hammer. Small single action front sight and a V notch rear sight. One piece wood grip. It has an oval ejector head. PROVENANCE: From the personal and advanced collection of Dr. Jim Watson of Scottsdale, Arizona. CONDITION: This gun retains some of the original high polish blue finish. The majority of the finish loss is to the ejector rod housing, barrel, and the backstrap. Vibrant case color in the protected areas on the frame and hammer. The remainder is turning a silver color. Nitre blue screws have not been molested. The front sight has had a small piece of ivory installed in it. The action locks up tight and indexes fine. It has all four clicks. Bright and shiny bore with sharp lands and grooves. The grips have a couple of storage marks and have had an extra coat of varnish applied to them. A very high condition Colt Frontier Six Shooter.
