2nd Model manufactured in 1850 during the first year of production. Classic blued 7 - 1/2" octagon barrel with New York address and small brass cone sight. Naval engagement scene rollmarked 6-shot percussion cylinder. Case hardened frame marked "COLTS / PATENT" on the left. Silver plated brass grip straps and desirable, small, squareback trigger guard as is characteristic for early production guns. Grips are 1-piece varnished walnut. Housed in a partitioned mahogany case that fits somewhat tightly. Includes Eley cap tin. PROVENANCE: From the personal and advanced collection of Dr. Jim Watson of Scottsdale, Arizona. CONDITION: Very fine overall. Barrel retains the majority of its factory blue with some edgewear and other marks. Cylinder has faded to a gray patina, the cylinder scene mostly legible. Some case color patterning is displayed with a gray patina. Grip straps retain nearly all of their warmly toned silver with some thinning on the backstrap and high edges. Grips have some expected nicks and wear along the base. Bore is strong and bright with a few scattered pits. Crisp mechanics. Matching numbers observed throughout. Case has some honest wear and splits, with wear and fading also present on the liner. A very nice example of a scarce, early Colt Navy.
