Per the included factory letters (2), this revolver shipped as a .45 Colt with a 4 - 3/4" barrel, blued finish, ivory grips, and factory engraving, shipped to Simmons Hardware, c/o R.A. Gougn, St. Louis, Missouri, in a shipment of 1 on June 18th, 1909. Both letters relay the same information. The factory engraving, of approximately B class coverage, is that of Cuno Helfricht of his shop, with well-cut floral scroll on a punch dot background, with rocker engraving, shell motifs, and geometric accents supporting the scroll. Other features as standard including blade front sight, two line Colt information across top of barrel, caliber designation on side of barrel, 2 line patent date on left side of frame, matching serial numbers on frame, trigger guard, and butt. Checkered ivory grips of a later vintage. Accompanied by aforementioned factory letters and a note from Frank Graves, regarding when he found the gun in San Antonio, Texas, and that it was attributed to a sheriff in Cotulla, Texas (spelled Catulla in letter). PROVENANCE: From the personal and advanced collection of Dr. Jim Watson of Scottsdale, Arizona. CONDITION: Metal is essentially a smooth dove grey throughout, with thinning blue retained on barrel, in cylinder flutes, and most protected areas, such as abutting trigger guard. Case colors are entirely faded. Mechanically fine with all 4 Colt clicks, bore with visible rifling and some moderate frosting. Grips are very good as more recent.
