Manufactured in 1859 in classic configuration throughout. Barrel is roll marked with 1 line Colt New York barrel address, and cylinder is marked with W.L. Ormsby Naval Battle scene depicting the battle of Campeche in May of 1843. Desirably martially marked with U.S. on left side of the frame, and US subinspector marked on major parts in correct areas. Matching serial numbers observed on barrel, ramrod, wedge, cylinder, cylinder arbor, frame, trigger guard, and butt. Grips bear crisp "CGC" inspector cartouche on left grip panel. PROVENANCE: From the personal and advanced collection of Dr. Jim Watson of Scottsdale, Arizona. CONDITION: Very good, with nearly all of the original finish turned an untouched freckled gray patina with faint factory case colors visible in protected areas. Brass assemblies are an attractive mellow patina. Grips have splice repairs on each grip panel, and are faintly correctly numbered to the rest of the gun on inside of backstrap. Action is tight and crisp. Bore is lightly frosted with darkness in the grooves near muzzle and well-defined rifling.
