Tom Shimoda is one of the most well-respected of the early custom 1911 gunsmiths. Built for bullseye shooting with extended front sight, Bo-Mar adjustable rear sight, and lengthened barrel, marked for Colt .38 Super on the hood, but fitted with a .38 Special magazine, most likely for .38 Special Wadcutters. Checkered narrow hammer, serrated slide release and safety, long A1 grip safety, modified checkered trigger, serrated magazine release, Pachamyr wraparound grips, and checkered flat magazine housing. Trigger breaks at a crisp 2#. Tom Shimoda's iconic kanji is on right side of frame, ahead of slide pin. PROVENANCE: From the personal and advanced collection of Dr. Jim Watson of Scottsdale, Arizona. CONDITION: Very good as custom built, with metal a somewhat plumier color than expected of Colt blue. Some minor handling marks throughout ocmmensurate with range use, and evidence of customization, such as lines where new trigger face was added and barrel was lengthened. Mechanically fine, bore is very good with strong rifling and some very mild frosting.
