This is a large brass fixed globe lantern of unknown provenance or application. It may be a marine piece. It is hallmarked on the underside of the base with "G. Peugeot Co. BUFFALO, NY Pat Mar 25, 1875." The bayonet base is retained with three pins and one brass spring. The unit stands 14-1/2" tall to the top of the finial and the clear globe has 5-3/4" of visibility between the fitters. The lantern appears to have never been fired and may be a patent model (?) Original plaster retaining the globe is intact at top and bottom. George Peugeot was thought to have exited the lantern business about 1865 when Ball and Bonnell arrived, but maybe not?
Condition: (Excellent).
Item Dimensions: 8" x 8" x 14".
