Manufactured circa 1862 during the American Civil War. Rifle features a blued 24 - 1/4" octagon barrel chambered in .44 Henry Flat Rimfire and stamped on the top flat with early small style 2-line address. Early German silver half moon front sight and 1000-yard folding ladder rear sight. Full length magazine tube with correct small style brass follower. Iconic brass frame built with a rear sight dovetail. The plain walnut buttstock is formed with an obtuse comb angle and perch belly. Early rounded heel brass trapdoor butt plate. Tool trap retains an original 4-piece hickory cleaning rod marked "C" on the largest ferrule. PROVENANCE: Roberts Collection of Oregon until 1983, as is noted in a pair of letters, one notarized, signed by Henry authority Herold Dowd, as as well as a note signed by Ron Nick. Photocopies of these documents are included with this lot. CONDITION: Excellent. The barrel and magazine tube retain approximately 95% of their original, rich blued finish with some mild edgewear and thinning, as well as a few small scratches. Frame exhibits a highly attractive golden mustard patina. Stock has been lightly cleaned with a coat of oil added. Some scatted marks present. Bore is especially fine and bright, with strong, well-defined rifling throughout. Crisp mechanics. Matching serial number "919" observed on barrel, lower receiver tang, stock channel, butt plate, and all stock screws. Matching "391" assembly numbers present on the loading gate and the round portion of the barrel under the gate; the muzzle collar unnumbered. Cleaning rod is very fine. A superb, high condition Henry for the advanced collector.
