Circa 1885-1888. Single Shot 3 - 1/4" Express (Black Powder) rifle with 26" steel takedown barrel (screw-in). Barrel with wide matte filed flat top rib. Rib with one standing leaf sight at 100 yards and one folding for 200 yards. Both with platinum sight line. Muzzle end of rib with bladed front sight. Rib reads "DAN.L FRASER & CO.", and "4 LEITH ST. TERRACE EDINBURGH". Bottom of barrel with eye for sling loop. Bottom of barrel stamped "1722", "400EX", and with proofs. The case color hardened falling block action with built-in auto-safe trigger mechanism, side lever is uniquely built with a lever safe release on left. Blacked trigger guard with serial number "1722". Walnut stock with checkered pistol grip, horn grip cap, eye for sling loop and checkered horn butt plate. Matched checkered "Alex Henry" styled forend with Deeley latch release. Lives in vintage dark brown oak and leather take down case with "DANIEL FRASER & CO." black and gold trade label. Case is fitted with oil bottle. Rifle and case are also accompanied by loading dies, brass, and ammunition. Exterior case lid stamped with the initials "C.H.M.". Assembled rifle weighs 7 lbs. 10 oz. CONDITION: Very good. Barrel is very good with most all of its original black and strong rifling. Barrel and rib with some markings and indications of use/transport. Action is clean and appears to operate smoothly. Stock and forend both very good with handling marks. Case very good with handling marks - age appropriate. Nice, fun rifle.
