Model 1840 U.S. Flintlock Musket with Maynard Type Tape ConversionNVSN, .69 caliber, 42 inch barrel, Model 1840 U.S. Flintlock Musket with Maynard Type primed conversion (tape). Iron in the white, conversion mechanism blued, walnut stock, 1843 lock marking, correct inspector’s marks on stock and barrel. Rare; possibly 1 of 300 converted at Springfield Armory in 1848. Condition: bright smooth bore, iron is clean and smooth with touches of oxidation at the muzzle, conversion mechanism retains 90% of original case color, wood is excellent with sharp corners, excellent mechanically, excellent marks. This conversion was applied to 1000 Nippes 1840 muskets, and possibly as many as 20,000 Model 1816 muskets. Only the 300 converted at Springfield do not have specific makings.
