NVSN, .69 caliber smooth bore, approximate 30 inch barrel, “Wagon Gun” Conversion of US Flintlock Musket. Arsenal blued metal, walnut stock cut at 1st barrel band, sight and ramrod ferrules braised to barrel. Circa late 1860s. Condition: dark bore, mottled dark finish overall, solid stock, mechanically sound, very good marks.Thousands of surplus muskets were purchased after the Civil War by dealers such as Francis Bannerman of NY. Many of these were converted to percussion and had the stock shortened. These were used to meet the demand for firearms on westward migrating wagon trains.
