Developed as a combined bayonet and entrenching tool, approximately 2000 were produced by Springfield Armory in 1900. These were subsequently sent to the Philippines and Cuba for field testing. This example features the iconic 9" clip point Bowie-shaped blade marked on the ricasso "US" and "1900". Blade, cross guard, and pommel correctly remain in the white. Fitted with 2-piece walnut grips. Complete with a correct blued scabbard with belt attachment. CONDITION: Very good overall. Components that remain in the white display a pleasant mellowing patina with scattered, minor spots of darkening. Grips are very fine, showing only light handling marks. Scabbard retains the majority of its original finish with some losses and cleaned oxidation spots. A very nice example.
