Rare and extremely well-made 2 barrel 16 and 20 gauge shotgun set made by the A.H. Fox Gun Company of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1920 for Bob Smith. Factory records indicate that this gun was originally made in 16 gauge and, in recent times, was fitted with set of factory-style 20 gauge barrels with matching serial numbers. Original 16-gauge barrels measure 28", are made of blued Chromox Fluid Steel, and feature ejectors, matted rib, and bead front sight with steel type markings on right barrel, A.H. Fox address on left, and DE Grade style floral breech engraving. Barrels are choked Full and Modified with 2 - 3/4" chambers, matching both Cody research and original factory card. Second set of 20 gauge barrels appears to be of a modern age and done expertly in factory style, also made of Chromox Fluid steel and so marked, measuring 28" with 2 - 3/4" chambers with Full and Full chokes with ejectors, matted rib, and twin bone bead sights. Stocked in figured European walnut with checkered side panels and 2 panels of checkered pattern with diamonds over a round knob pistol grip with original serrated hard rubber buttplate and brass oval stock vanity plate. Factory research indicates gun was ordered with 3" DAH and 14 - 1/8" LOP, but does not list DAC. 16 gauge barrels are fitted with a matching walnut splinter forearm with full coverage design with Deeley latch and ebony tip inlay. 20 gauge barrels have a matching forearm with matching configuration and design. Case-hardened boxlock action with "D" marking on water table and factory patent dates. Fitted with polished double triggers, non-automatic safety, and engraved in William Gough "DE" pattern style with full coverage of florals and bird scenes with a pointing dog on bottom of receiver and floral engraved blued trigger guard. Cody research confirms all options, including extreme shooting dimensions, but does indicate a return or manufacture of 20 gauge barrels. Comes in canvas wrapped trunk case with maker label and snap caps. CONDITION: 98% original barrel blue on both sets. 98%+ as professionally restored vivid action case colors with slight handling and assembly wear. Stock has been lightly cleaned with some minor bumps and dings with sharp checkering. Mirror bores. Tight lock up and good mechanics; screws in time but turned at one time. Case in like new condition. A beautifully made gun.
