As the Cold War was heating up in the early 1960s, the CIA ordered 1000 clandestine single shot 9mm pistols constructed from cast aluminum with a screw off barrel to be dropped to partisans, much like the World War II Liberator. Approximately 200 were sent to Vietnam for testing, although little is known about their combat use. Nearly all of the secret pistols are believed to have been destroyed, with less than 25 likely extant. This lot consists of 2 frames with internals, one missing a cocking piece, 4 barrels, a spare trigger, and a cocking piece. CONDITION: Relic. Aluminum shows oxidation and deterioration, with internals seized up. Barrels also have oxidation and pitting. A rare opportunity to acquire a pair of these rarely seen and highly desirable clandestine pistols.
