Made by E. Remington and Sons between 1861 and 1862, only 14,500 made. 7 - 1/2" octagonal blued barrel with Beals patent and Remington address information and German silver cone front sight. Blued finish cylinder and frame, brass trigger guard, and steel grip. Factory walnut 2-piece grips with matching numbers on frame under grips. According to the consignor, this revolver was acquired from the estate of Douglas Wardlaw Ewell, a relative of Confederate General Richard Stoddert Ewell, who claimed the revolver was passed to him by his father, who had inherited it from Ben Stoddard Ewell (Douglas' grandfather who lived from 1810-1894), a CSA officer and brother to General Ewell, who was known to carry a Remington Beals revolver. The revolver comes with a letter of provenance describing the chain of history, as well as a post-war carte de visite of General Ewell. CONDITION: Overall good. Metal turning to a gray patina with some areas of discoloration. Brass shows a golden yellow color from handling with grips in a natural oil-soaked state. Good mechanics with nipples smashed from dry firing and hammer filed and reshaped. Dark bore with visible rifling and some pitting.
