Manufactured in 1887 by the Amberg Arsenal as an updated tube magazine fed repeating version of the 1871 Mauser rifle. Standard lustrously blued octagon-to-round barrel with blade front sight and ladder rear, as well as appropriate Imperial German proofs and crown over "AMBERG" arsenal marking stamped at the breech. Receiver correctly remains in the white and features "1887" date and Germanic script "I.G.Mod.71/84." model designation. Full-length walnut stock with above-average attractive grain and stamped Imperial proof marks. Mounts include 2 blued barrel bands, 1-piece trigger guard, and butt plate stamped with "B3RR / 103" unit marking likely the 3rd Bavarian Infantry Regiment, Recruiting Depot, Weapon 103. Accompanied by a commercial leather sling. CONDITION: Excellent. Bountiful amounts of original arsenal blue are retained on the barrel. Mounts show some toning. Stock has scattered light impressions and spotting but is otherwise very fine. Very strong bore. Fine mechanics. Matching full or partial serial numbers observed throughout. A very handsome example.
