Manufactured in 1891. Standard proofed 32 - 5/8" barrel chambered in .45-70 with blade front sight and Buffington rear. "US / MODEL / 1884" marked low arch breech block. "US / SPRINGFIELD and federal eagle motif stamped lock plate with 3-click tumbler. Full length walnut stock with encircled "P" firing proof at the wrist and script "SWP / 1891" cartouche on the left flat, and a "45" rack number at the heel. Standard blued steel mounts, including screwdriver bayonet. Accompanied by a Model 1879 combination tool. CONDITION: Very good overall. Barrel blue has largely drifted to plum with some older oxidation spots. Breech block and tang display a few flashes of case color with brown patina. Portions of blue retained on the hardware with toning and scattered oxidation spots. Stock is has scattered impressions and some spotting, very good overall. Strong, abraded bore. Mechanically fine.
