Receiver made at Springfield Armory in 1916 and then distributed later by the CMP to the NRA. "SA" over Flaming Bomb over "2-16" date marked blued 24" round barrel with the standard front sight, a standard rear sight graduated to 2800 yards, and a Lyman 48S receiver sight. Case hardened receiver with serrated trigger and marked "U.S. / SPRINGFIELD / ARMORY / MODEL OF 1903 / SN 623265" with correct unswept blued bolt. Blued milled floorplate marked ahead of front screw with "(Flaming Bomb) / N.R.A.". Standard military one bolt walnut stock marked with "J.S.A." inspector marks and "P" in circle proof stamp with correct finger groove forestock and correct high hump top wood. Correct blued stock hardware with correct checkered steel buttplate. CONDITION: Overall 90% original arsenal finish with edges and handling areas turning a silvery patina. Case colors are worn to a silvery patina. Good stock with visible cartouches and traces of original varnish. Good mechanics with bright bore with visible rifling. Bore has TE of 3 and a ME of 2 with light frosting. A hard gun to find in this condition; most were torn apart and rebarreled for World War II.
