The owl theme is renowned in Mexican culture, even pre-dating the arrival of Spanish colonists in the 16th century. It's a symbol of darkness, magic, night and death, and is artfully incorporated into this lovely antique bridle with four distinctive domed, three-dimensional owl-face conchos with red eyes. The headstall has a linked silver chain across the headband connecting to leather cheeks with inlaid twisted silver wire, oval silver buckles and tips. The bit is a traditional silver inlaid period Mexican bit securing a noteworthy and impressive pair of fancy and multifaceted reins. Early 1900s and in overall very good condition.
Item Dimensions: 24" x 7" x 3 - 1/2".
