A massive swivel gun mounted with a very heavy cast bronze octagon barrel with smooth bore measuring approximately 1" at the muzzle. Blade front sight and u-notch rear. Barrel and back action flint lock are marked in 3 lines "T. FRENCH / CANTON, MASSACHUSETTS / SEPTEMBER 26, 1809" after the prolific early 19th century arms maker Thomas French, who, among other arms, manufactured blunderbuss swivel guns for martial service. Stocked in walnut with brass mounts and a composite butt plate. Complete with brass mounted wood base and iron ramrod. CONDITION: Good. Barrel and mounts have developed a mellow patina. Lock and breech display a freckled chocolate patina. Stock has a few scuffs. Good bore and mechanics. An interesting piece.
