Shipped June 17, 1944 as part of a 120 gun shipment to the Office of Strategic Services for "Commanding Officer". The OSS formed in 1942 as the United States intelligence agency, serving in various covert espionage, sabotage, and resistance backing roles during the war, before being transformed into the modern CIA. Known military contracts list only 2,928 Colt 1903s shipped directly to the OSS, making documented guns quite scarce. This example remains in the configuration as shipped with desirable royal blue finish, 3 - 3/4" barrel, .32 ACP chambering, standard sights, and 2-piece checkered walnut grips with wartime nickel silver medallions. Right side of frame is correctly stamped "U.S. PROPERTY", the left side of the trigger guard also marked with a punch dot acceptance stamp. Gun is complete with a blued "CAL.32 / COLT" marked magazine and 2015 dated factory letter. CONDITION: Excellent. Approximately 97% factory blue with only very mild high edge silvering and some light surface blemishes. Grips are very fine with checkering sharp. Bore displays crisp rifling with some light frosting in the grooves. Mechanically fine. A wonderful example of a "spy gun" documented to the OSS.
