Randall Model 12-9 with #14 grind. The knife is 1 of 86 that were dedicated to Challenger Mission (STS 51-1) January 28th, 1986, which resulted in disaster when all 7 crew members were tragically killed during the shuttle's explosion. This commemorative knife is quite attractive and features a 9" stainless blade, marked on left side with Randall maker mark and "1 of 86" with an image of the Challenger space shuttle on the right side. Nickel silver cross guard and pommel with black and aluminum spacers. "NASA brown" micarta handle, made from original G3 salvaged from NASA's Kennedy Space Center Launch Complex 39 during refit after the disaster. The knife is accompanied by the original brown leather scabbard featuring Randall's logo which is flanked by "CHALLENGER / MISSION MEMORIAL", and sharpening stone. Complete with certificate of authenticity issued by Captain Chris Stanaback (Sportsman's Services, Authorized Randall Dealer) and Perry Miller (Spaceport Cutlery, President of National Knife Collectors Association and National Knife Museum). CONDITION: Bright blade with no major signs of distress. Handle is in matching condition. Scabbard is pliable, with tight stitching, and only scattered light handling blemishes. Light verdigris around rivets. Very good.
