27 - 1/2" monobloc barrels with large brass bead front sight on a narrow, deep set matte rib, dressed with 1 - 1/4" triangles of shaded acanthus scroll at breeches. Underside of barrels with serial number, importer information, and modern French nitro proofs for a choked 20 gauge with a nominal 16.0 IBD in both barrels, 2 - 3/4" chambers. Iconic Darne sliding action with serial number on underside of lever, and engraved with nicely cut shaded acanthus scroll, with interspersed florals, and deep-set "Darne" logo on lever. Left side of action with sliding safety tab. Double triggers are protected by a trigger guard with long tang, engraved en suite. English-style straight grip stock with checkering about the wrist, decorated with beaded borders. A small inset "JV" device is inset on left side of stock; sling bows are mounted on an island sweated to underside of rib and on a stud at toeline. Leather-covered recoil pad with European style covered screws. Cast off for a right handed shooter. An interesting set of what appears to be snapcaps are screwed to the breeches with allen key heads, presumably to allow for safe dryfire; unscrewing heads does not allow them to detach. CONDITION: Excellent, showing little evidence of use since proof. Barrels are excellent, and retain virtually all of their bluing with some minor marks from handling and some random associated marks throughout. Some superficial scratching. Stock is excellent with minor handling marks. Action excellent, finish turning somewhat yellowish. Mechanically fine, quite tight, bores are excellent. A good example of the iconic French shotgun.
