In addition to his well-known interest in Presidential history, Dr. Lattimer was dedicated to the investigation of early medicine and surgery, and particularly in the College of Physicians and Surgeons. This lot consists of two books, three portraits, and a large amount of printed and manuscript material. The lot consists of: Autograph note signed by Dr. Mary Walker, Civil War nurse and later surgeon seeking contact information from a newspaper editor in 1907; 1864 4-pg brochure listing courses, faculty, etc. for the 1864-65 session of the Medical Dept. Univ. of NY; Short ALS J.W. Webster, chemist and Harvard lecturer, hanged for killing Dr. George Parkman; 1813 Inaugural Dissertation of the Eupatorium Perfoliatum of Linnaeus, Andrew Anderson, printed in NY. 75 pages, complete; 1866 assignment of patent rights for “improved instruments for treating diseases by vacuum” from George Hadfield M.D. to J.W. Miller & Co.; 1824 manuscript medical update on medical condition of the King at Windsor castle; 1919 personal history of Dr. Squire for admission to US Army Medical Corps; 1862 Leslie Illustrated centerfold portrait of Dr. John W. Francis; 1834 2pp ALS of Dr. David Hosack to Rev. Henry Colman regarding his farm, with engraved portrait; Manual of Human Microscopical Anatomy, Kolliker, transl by Costa, Phil. 1854. Covers detached, last pages of index missing; 1806 Medical Repository and Review of American Publications on Medicine, Surgery and the Auxiliary Branches of Science, Vol. 6, Mitchell and Miller. VG condition but with names inside front cover. 1813 ALD Felix Pascalis; 1784 ALS Dr. J.R.B. Rodgers; 1818 bill from John C. Otto; 1818 ALS and engraved portrait Dr. Reuben Mussey; 1802 CT medical license/diploma, vellum with silk ribbon and seal. Clip signature Thomas Cadwalader (inoculation); Yale medical lecture admission ticket; 1836 Columbia diploma; 9 ALS Fordyce Barker, physician and professor of midwifery, relating to medical treatment of mutual friend; 2 typed 1951 letters signed by Anna Freud; 2 signed framed photos to Lattimer; 1 unframed, unidentified “solar portrait,” seated male, likely a surgeon, cracked in upper middle. CONDITION: All items show just expected age and defects, with one book in poor condition as noted.
