Manufactured in 1843 with an estimated 2000 made between 1842 and 1847. Round smoothbore barrel marked "USN / 1844 / RP / P" at breech. Boxlock percussion lock marked "USN/1843" at rear and "N.P.AMES/SPRINGFIELD/MASS." with single trigger control. Walnut stock with brass hardware, "RP" inspector mark, and captured steel ramrod. CONDITION: Metal is turning a silvery patina with some light surface discoloration. Brass has original golden patina. Wood lightly cleaned with light usage marks. Dark bore with good mechanics.
