According to the Colt Factory archive letter, this gun left the factory as a .38 Colt with a 6" barrel. It was blue with stocks not listed. Under special features, the letter notes it was furnished with an ejector. It was shipped to W.R. Schaefer & Son, Boston, Massachusetts, on September 16th, 1886, in a shipment of 1 gun. German silver half moon front sight and a V notch rear sight. Six shot fluted cylinder with two piece hard rubber grips. Case color frame and nitre blue small parts. Two line address on top of the barrel, "COLT'S PT. F. A. MFG. CO. / HARTFORD, CT. U.S.A." Deep etched panel on the left side of the barrel, "COLT D.A. 38". Three line patent dates on the left side of the frame. There is an "A" stamped on the left rear trigger bow. CONDITION: This gun has survived and is in stunning condition. The early original deep polish blue finish shows a few handling and storage marks. The lower part of the rear grip strap has a little bit of finish loss. The case colors are vibrant. Bright and shiny bore with sharp lands and grooves. The checkering on the grips is sharp and crisp and show essentially no wear. The nitre blue screws have not been molested. The action works great in both single and double action.
