Factory letter states that serial number 40519 was shipped on February 2, 1883 as a .38/c, nickel, stocks not listed to Simmons Hardware Company St. Louis Missouri in a shipment of 50 guns. This gun features full nickel finish including screws with exception to the hammer that has polished sides and fire blue top and back finish. The trigger and cylinder pin head are also peacock blue. Grips are two piece mother of pearl. This sheriffs model does not have an ejector rod. The left side of the barrel features the acid etched panel "COLT D.A. 38". The top of the barrel bears the short two line Colt address. The left side of the frame has the three line patent address. The maroon box has the second type pink label that displays the sheriffs model illustration with Colt pony and Colt's Hartford information. The white and pink end label reads "3 1/2 COLT'S D.A. PISTOL - NICKEL .38" There is a small white tape that reads NICKEL which was pasted over the pre printed blue stamping. There is a white and black sticker that reads "WITHOUT EJECTOR" There is a full size inner lid, red and yellow, illustrating the Ideal reloading mold #4. CONDITION. The cylinder face has some oxidation but shows no black face burn. The acid etched panel is vibrant. Overall, this gun retains virtually all of the original factory nickel with some light handling consistent with guns of this finish. The fire blue is brilliant. The factory pearl grips are bright, having toned with age and one minute chip near base. The action works both single and double but the trigger return spring sticks. Bore is bright. The box is complete with all attached aprons and complete corners. The picture label has areas of toning and light staining with general edge chipping and a small chip partially obscuring the word "PISTOL" The inside Ideal label is brilliant with some areas of toning.
