In 1982, the Colt company refunded Mr. Bruce Skinner a refund of $15 as they "are sorry to inform you we were not able to locate shipping records " for serial number 164. This sheriff model bears a very early low serial number and features the checkered one piece rose wood grips and does not have the spring screw in front grip strap along with early front sight. This beauty features the factory nickel finish with fire blue screws, trigger, cylinder pin and top/back of hammer. The left side has a brilliant acid etched panel that reads COLT D A 38. Top of barrel is stamped with two line Colt address. Left side of frame has three line patent date, no pony. 38 CAL stamped in rear left trigger bow. CONDITION. Excellent. Near new. No signs of having ever been fired, no face burn. One of the cylinder flats has flaked but almost impossible to see the missing nickel. Breathtaking fire blue on hammer and trigger with majority still present on screws. Legends are sharp. Bore is bright. Action functions correctly both single and double. The French fitted leatherette case bears a plaque that reads "W. L. P. 1876" We cannot conjecture as to why case is dated 1876.
