According to the Colt factory archive letter, this gun left the factory as a .45 Colt with a 7 - 1/2" barrel. It was nickel finished with the grips unlisted. It was shipped to Lee Fried & Co. in Omaha, Nebraska, on August 28th, 1886, in a shipment of 5 guns. Single line address on top of the barrel, "COLT'S PT. F. A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A." Three line patent address on the left side of the frame. Caliber designation on the left front trigger bow, "45 CAL". One piece varnished wood grip. It has matching serial numbers on the frame, trigger guard, and the backstrap. It has the last four digits of the serial number on the barrel under the ejector rod housing, on the side of the cylinder, and on the rear of the grip in the groove. There is a 6880 bin number on the loading gate. It has the second style kidney shaped ejector rod. The action locks up tight and indexes fine. CONDITION: This gun retains vast amounts of the original applied nickel finish. The frame has the majority of the finish loss. The grip shows some wear and has a small chip on the lower left side. Some of the original varnish remains. Good bore with well defined lands and grooves.
