Produced under an 1863 Navy contract at the request of Captain Dahlgren, 10,000 were delivered in 1864. Fitted with a blued octagon to round barrel bored out to .75 smoothbore and marked with a "W" for inspector Frank Warner. Blade front sight, the rear sight removed. Percussion lock plate dated "1863" at the tail with "U.S. / WHITNEY-VILLE" and eagle motif ahead of the cock. 1-piece American walnut stock mounted with a pair of barrel bands, finger spur trigger guard, and "US" butt plate. CONDITION: Good. Barrel retains significant traces of unusual blued finish, cleaned to a brown gray patina. Stock is very good with some scattered impressions. Fine mechanics.
