Rare Kennard & Jenks, Boston, sterling silver salver/ footed tray, circa 1878. Kennard & Jenks was only in operation for a few short years, and in 1880 was absorbed into Gorham. This salver originally belonged to famed Harvard graduate, Morrill Wyman of Cambridge, Mass. Wyman was an American physician and social reformer. Best known for his work on hay fever, he was one of the most respected doctors of his time, a social reformer, Harvard overseer, hospital president, and author in his long lifetime. Upon his death in 1903, this piece was gifted from the estate to long time friend, Henry Pickering Walcott. There is a wonderful hand engraved presentation inscribed under the base that reads "TO HENRY PICKERING WALCOTT IN MEMORY OF MORRILL WYMAN 1903". Dr. Walcott was acting president of Harvard University in the first part of the 20th century. Both of these men were very well known and respected doctors with strong ties to Harvard University. The salver measures 11" in diameter, and stands 1 - 3/8" tall. It weighs 24.4 troy ounces. It is marked "STERLING, BOSTON, K & J". There are a few light scratches consistent with age, but no damage whatsoever.
