A very close copy of the Smith & Wesson No. 1, this example was manufactured circa 1868 to 1873 by the American Standard Tool Company, successor to Manhattan Firearms Company. It features lovely punch dot shaded foliate scroll engraving on barrel and frame. Additional features include blued ribbed octagon barrel, German silver half moon front sight, 7-shot cylinder with partially legible rolled scene, spur trigger, silver plated brass frame, and 2-piece mother of pearl grips. Gun is engraved on the backstrap "R.J. Wick", as is slightly defaced. Also inscribed "J.B. Ayer" on the base of the left grip. CONDITION: Fine. Barrel retains traces of original blue in the protected areas, the balance faded to an even dove gray patina. Frame retains the vast majority of its richly toned silver, the high edges worn to mellow brass. Grips are fine with only a few tiny nicks. Bore has defined rifling and some black powder pits. Crisp mechanics. A beautiful, double-named 19th-century revolver deserving further research.
