Manufactured by the National Arms Co. circa 1860s with low 2-digit "11" serial number. This prototype remains in an unfinished state with unusual lever blade extractor. Barrel is unmarked and roughly polished. Fitted with a German silver half moon front sight. No barrel latch knob present. Plain, unengraved, brass frame with spur trigger and 2-piece bird's head grips, each marked "X73" on the underside. This example is featured on page 129 of "The Deringer in America" by Eberhart and Wilson, although serial number is noted as "10" in a transcription error. CONDITION: Very good overall. Barrel displays a silvery patina. Frame is mellow. Grips have some mild wear but are very good overall. Strong bore. A very interesting, published prototype, possibly one of a kind.
