Manufactured circa 1874 in standard configuration throughout. Desirable "A" O.W. Ainsworth inspector marks observed on trigger guard, top of backstrap near hammer, and the side of the cylinder. Features include script barrel address, 2 line patent date on frame next to "U.S." marking, early ejector rod housing with reinforcement stud cut (reinforcement stud is no longer present), barrel has reinforcement stud relief cut, and early style donut ejector rod head. Center pin and centerpin retaining screw are modern replacements. Donut ejector rod head has been repaired. Matching serial numbers observed on barrel, frame, trigger guard, cylinder, and butt. CONDITION: Good, with virtually all of the original finish turned a freckled gray patina throughout. At one point, the barrel was cut down and recrowned, likely for use in the Artillery model SAAs in the 1890s, and has since been restored to 7 - 1/2". Grips are well-worn. Mechanically fine. Bore is dark with well-defined rifling.
