Receiver manufactured circa 1880. Arsenal reapplied blued finish throughout. Standard proofed 20" barrel chambered in .45-70 with blade front sight and Buffington rear. "U.S. / MODEL / 1884" marked low arch breechblock. 3-click tumbler. 1-piece walnut carbine stock faintly stamped with a circle "P" proof at the wrist and hand carved on the left of the butt "TA" over a large X, possibly crude crossed cannons. Mounts include 1890 style barrel band, 2-piece trigger guard, and tool trap butt plate. Carbine is accompanied by a nice Rock Island Arsenal McKeever box containing 20-rounds of vintage UMC .45-70 ammunition. CONDITION: Very good as arsenal refurbished. Blue has largely drifted to a chocolate patina throughout. Markings somewhat softened. Wood is good with scattered bumps and bruise. Bore shows strong, well-defined rifling and some mild cleaned oxidation spots. Crisp mechanics.
