Per an included 2014 dated factory letter, the serial number was applied to this rifle January 28, 1893. It shipped on February 17 with octagonal barrel, .38-56 chambering, Winchester Express sights, half length magazine, plain trigger, checkered pistol grip stocks, and shotgun butt. Remains in the configuration as shipped. The blued 26" octagon barrel sports a silver bead blade front sight and platinum lined 3-leaf express rear sight. Half length button magazine and case hardened sold frame. Checkered figured walnut forend and pistol grip stock with ebony grip inlay and steel shotgun butt plate. Stock channel numbered "524". Matching "524 XX S" assembly number, wood grade, and shotgun butt notation also marked on the lower tang. CONDITION: Fine. Barrel retains significant portions of factory applied blue, fading to a brown patina with some freckling. Left side of receiver displays bright case colors with some oxidation spotting, the left has largely faded to patina with some patterning. Belly has developed a brown, oxidized patina. Lever and hammer retain traces of case color, largely faded to patina with areas of older oxidation. Stocks have scattered nicks and impressions, a dark oil line also present running from the tang onto the comb. Strong, bright bore with only light imperfections. Crisp mechanics.
