Manufactured approximately 1850-1860 likely by Nashville, Tennesse-based maker Frank J. Bitterlich on Glassick's behalf for retail. These were very popular during the period with Gold Rush miners as well as American Civil War Soldiers as self-defense pistols. Octagonal barrel is retained by a screw on the underside and is marked "F. GLASSICK & CO. / MEMPHIS TENN" on top barrel flat. Unmarked back action lock. Sights are a brass blade front sight and a notch rear sight mounted to the tang. Walnut stock with checkered grip terminating into a square butt. Mountings are German silver. CONDITION: Very good, with iron assemblies turned a freckled dove-gray patina. Stock is very good, with finish loss at edges, handling marks throughout, and small crack near rear lock screw. Mountings are a mellow patina with scattered handling marks. German silver shield behind the tang has been polished bright and is engraved with a "1" and then a small plug to the right of it. Action holds on full cock, but does not have a half cock. Bore is dark with well-defined rifling.
