Manufactured in 1881. This was Colt's first double action revolver produced. They were manufactured between 1877 and 1909 with a total production of 166,849 guns produced. This gun has an etched panel "COLT D.A. 38" on the left side of the barrel. Two line address on top of the barrel "COLT'S PT. F. A. MFG. CO. / HARTFORD, CT. U.S.A." Three line patent address on the left side of the frame. Half moon front sight and a V notch rear sight. Six shot fluted cylinder. Two piece Mother of Pearl grips. Matching serial numbers observed on the frame, trigger guard, and the back strap. The last three digits of the serial number are on the rear of the cylinder. CONDITION: This gun retains vast amounts of the original factory-applied nickel finish, with the majority of the finish loss to the trigger guard and grip straps. The action works in both single and double action. Good bore with some slight frosting in the lands and grooves. The grips are a little small for this gun and are probably period aftermarket grips. It is missing the front trigger guard screw.
