This sword is published and can be seen on page 78 of Volume I of "American Silver-Hilted, Revolutionary and Early Federal Swords" by Daniel D. Hartzler. The slightly curved blade has a narrow fuller along the top on both sides. The large Latin phrase on right side translates to "Do not draw me without reason", while the other side translates to "Do not sheathe me without honor". The silver guard has a forward turned quillon and the reverse-P knuckle bow is stamped on the bottom with "I KUCHER" hallmark in a sunken rectangular cartouche for maker and silversmith Jacob Kucher of Philadelphia. The pommel is a silver knight's hemet with plume and visor. The grip is ivory with deep grooves. Complete with most of its original tooled black leather scabbard with scalloped silver mounts. CONDITION: Blade retains a light grey patina and engraving is excellent. Hilt shows a mellow grey patina with darker patina in protected areas. Hilt is tight to blade. Grip shows a worn period chip below pommel on left side. Scabbard missing about 4" at tip along with drag. Leather shows flaking and losses to surface, top mount damaged. A very good signed American silver hilted cavalry officer's saber.
