Dr. John K. Lattimer’s wide-ranging interest in history and historical figures led him into the study of assassinations, both Lincoln’s and Kennedy’s, the attack on William Seward, etc., the perpetrators, and even forensic pathology in studying the crimes. He also developed an interest in the punishments, having witnessed the Nuremburg trials and subsequent executions. He later acquired this British hangman’s rope by way of British master gunsmith Kit Ravenshear (1930-1998) along with a 1974 letter to Ravenshear regarding its history. The rope is thick, heavyweight, with leather wrap on the heavy brass grommet forming the knot and the portion the part of the rope that would be in contact with the neck, a hard rubber stop for the knot, and another heavy brass grommet for attachment to a hook. Also with this is a 1979 letter from Lattimer seeking information and technical details for ropes he had seen used in the executions at Nuremburg. CONDITION: Good.
