Lot consists of various documents from the Lattimer Collection regarding the Continental Navy including (A) John Rodgers LS dated 1820 to Commodore Murray about a "model of Binacle" to be built for the navy. (B) Mahlon Dickerson LS folio dated 1837 to John Cassedy on naval matters regarding the South Sea Exploring Expedition. (C) Newton Keene ALS dated 1800 from the ship Connecticut to Dr. Stuart giving an interesting account of the capture of a French privateer and mentioning the death of George Washington. (D) 1760 fragmented document mentioning Esck Hopkins. (E) Leonard Jarvis 1777 dated letter to John Bradford, Continental agent at Boston, in part notifying him of the refitting of the Continental Sloop "Providence" and seeking supplies for her medical and surgical chests. The sloop was heavily engaged off Sandy Hook the previous month. There is also a nail from the HMS Bounty. Mixed in the lot are various engravings of naval scenes and figures. CONDITION: All pieces exhibit scattered blemishes including edge wear, staining, fading, creases, tears, etc. Rodgers and Dickerson letters come with a JSA ALOA.
