Only 639 Crown Grade 12 Gauge guns were manufactured between 1912 and 1950. Blued 30" nitro steel barrels marked near the breech "L. C. SMITH CROWN GRADE" and "MADE TO ORDER BY THE HUNTER ARMS CO., INC. FULTON, N.Y.". Matted rib with double bead sights and gold lined engraved extension. Barrel flats and water table are stamped with the full serial number over "C.E.". Fitted with ejectors and Hunter One Trigger. Frame is case hardened and engraved in typical Crown Grade style with fine scroll and rose bouquet highlights. Gold crown is inlaid in gold on top lever. Lockplates have engraved scenes of hunting dogs in detailed backgrounds on each plate, all in typical Crown Grade pattern. Checkered American walnut splinter forend with inlaid ebony tip. Stock is of nice figure with checkered pistol grip and unengraved gold toeline vanity plate. White line black plastic grip cap and rubber recoil pad are aftermarket additions. CONDITION: Good overall. Barrels retain the vast majority of their reapplied blue. Action has traces of case color but has largely drifted to a silver patina. Stocks are very good as refreshed with some scattered impressions. Recoil pad shows heavy deterioration and is in need of replacement. Bores are bright and show moderate use. Fine mechanics. A scarce L.C. Smith.
