Manufactured circa 1904. Rifle features an 18" polished blue round barrel marked at the breech "44-40". German silver Rocky Mountain front sight and desirable platinum lined 3-leaf express rear sight. Case hardened receiver. Smooth varnished rifle forend with blued nose cap. Matching walnut stock with blued carbine butt plate. CONDITION: Very good overall. Barrel retains nearly all of its factory blue with some scattered marks and a ghost from an elevation adjustable rear sight. Included factory research indicates that the factory record for this rifle is blank. Receiver displays the majority of its brilliant case colors with some areas of fading and carry wear. Stocks are likewise very good with some scattered impressions and a pair of unfilled sling stud holes. Butt plate retains most of its factory blue as well. Very fine and bright bore. Crisp mechanics. With standard 20" carbine available, very few of these special order short rifles were built. This would make a great addition to any Marlin collection.
