Circa 1850-1860s, scarcely seen Texas made Bowie knife made in San Antonio. Overall length of 11" with a 6 3/4" blade and a 1" false edge. Left ahnd side of blade is marked "H.D. NORTON & BRO / SAN ANTONIO". Hardwood slab handles show period hand carved criss-cross patterns, held in place by 5 iron pins over a full tang. Knife retains period original leather over wood scabbard with belt loop. CONDITION: Good. Knife has been heavily cleaned and sharpened but maker stamp is strong. Slabs are tight to tang with no wiggle. Scabbard shows age commensurate flaking to the leather but otherwise solid with tight stitching.
