Circa 1850s Sheffield made clip point Bowie knife. A very popular style for American export, the maker mark on this example has been polished off, but known similar examples were made by Bunting & Sons, Wragg, and this example most likely by John Yeomans. Overall length is 14 - 3/4" with a 9" blade and a 5" false edge. One piece tapered horn handle with silver shield escutcheon over narrow tang. Coin silver, die stamped, hollow horsehead pommel and matching crossguard. Retains period correct green Moroccan leather sheath with gold embossing and silver mounts. CONDITION: Very good. Heavily polished but nice edge and sharp trip. Grips and furniture tight to handle with no wobble.
