Circa 1850s -1860s Sheffield Bowie knife for the California market. Records show these were retailed in San Francisco to argonauts headed to the Gold Fields in the 1850s. Overall length is 15 - 1/2" with a 9 - 1/4" blade with 4" false edge. Ricasso stamped "WILLIAM WEBSTER / SYCAMORE WORKS". There were two William Websters working in Sheffield from 1835-1868. Single piece stag grips with silver 'S' shaped crossguard with a die struck nickel two-piece bulbous pommel cap of grapes with vines. Correct Moroccan leather scabbard with silver throat and silver replacement tip. CONDITION: Very good. Previous light pitting has been cleaned with some factory finish remaining, edge sharpened lightly with sharp tip.
