Circa American Civil War era clip point bowie knife by Hassam Brothers that is marked "HASSAM BROTHERS / BOSTON" diagonally stamped on the thick ricasso. The knife features a 9 - 1/4" blade with clip point that is heavily worn. 4" false edge with thick spine. Rounded choil that is typical of blades crafted by Hassam Brothers. Gray patina to blade with scattered freckling and edge wear. The blade exhibits evidence of an old cleaning and sharpening. S-shaped crossguard with rounded quillons and silvered ferrule. Antler grip knife with large brass retaining nut on the pommel. The knife is complete with its leather scabbard that features silvered mounts and a leather belt loop. The throat is engraved with a presentation that reads "J. Forsyth Jr. / From his Friends.". Mounts exhibit scattered blemishes with heavy patina to drag. Belt loop remains intact with creases and surface cracks on the scabbard body. CONDITION: Good.
